This will be the 26th time in franchise history that the Red Bulls have participated in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. New York has posted a 27-22-4 mark in the U.S. Open Cup and this will be the first time that they have participated in the tournament since 2023. Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC have posted a 1-3-4 mark in the USL Championship this season, including a 1-1-2 mark at home. Switchbacks FC won the USL Championship Final last season and advanced to the Round of 32 of the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup after defeating One Knoxville SC, 3-2. The Red Bulls have posted a 16-8-1 mark in their opening matches of the U.S. Open Cup, including a 3-1-1 mark in their last five.

New York Red Bulls forward Mohammed Sofo scored his second MLS goal of the season in New York’s most recent MLS match against Inter Miami CF. Sofo has scored in two of his three career MLS starts. The Ghanian forward has made two career Open Cup appearances, where he has scored two goals and tallied one assist. Defender Omar Valencia tallied his fourth MLS assist of the season on May 3, which ranks tied for first among active MLS defenders. Valencia has made two career Open Cup appearances.
Following Tuesday’s match, New York returns to Sports Illustrated Stadium to take on the Los Angeles Galaxy for Noche Latina presented by New Jersey Lottery, on Saturday, May 10.
