Ethan Horvath was a monster between the sticks on Saturday night, as the goalkeeper was locked in en route to a clean sheet and a point on the road, a 0-0 draw against Seattle Sounders FC.
"It was a really strong response in terms of intensity, in terms of competitiveness, and in terms of commitment," Head Coach Michael Bradley said. "We spent a lot of time this week talking about some of those things, the basic things, but ultimately the foundation for any good team and so tonight, I could not be more proud of the players. The way that they stepped on the field, this is never an easy place to come. Seattle, their history that they have here, the atmosphere, obviously the turf is a unique challenge when you do not play on it every week. This was a real team effort and a really big step for us in the growth and maturity of this team."
Red Bull New York benefitted from Horvath's six saves on the night, many of which from point blank range. This was Horvath's second clean sheet of the season.
"Ethan had a really good game and we are really happy for him," Bradley said. "He has had a bunch of nights this year where he has been really key for us, and when you come here and you play against a team like Seattle in this environment, you know you are going to need some big plays from your goalkeeper. Ethan was there for us when we needed him."
Cameron Harper made his 100th career MLS appearance subbing into the match in the 67th minute. Â
"It was really important, as a team, that we got the clean sheet," Horvath said. "Be positive and leave Seattle on a good start to the away trip."
David Ruiz made his Red Bulls debut subbing into the match in the 74th minute, while Devin Padelford entered the match in the 82nd minute to make his Red Bulls debut. Â
"It is a credit to them, it is a credit to their mentalities, it is a credit to coming into a new team and a new club and being ready and open to throw yourself into it," Bradley said. "They have both, in a short amount of time, showed their personality. They have showed how excited they are to be here. They have fit in, in really good ways on the field and off the field and we are excited to have them both."
Ronald Donkor will miss the club's next match due to yellow card accumulation.
New York’s Starting XI in the match was the youngest in MLS history, with an average age of 22 years, 24 days (22.066 years old). Â
New York will remain on the road and head to BMO Stadium to face off against LAFC on Wednesday, September 9.
