MATCH RECAP, pres. by Provident Bank: FC Cincinnati rallies late to down Red Bulls

The New York Red Bulls fell to FC Cincinnati, 2-1, on Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena.

The Red Bulls took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute on a penalty kick from Omir Fernandez. The score marked the fourth straight match that the midfielder has contributed to a goal for New York. Prior to tonight, Fernandez had earned assists in three consecutive matches.

New York held its lead through halftime and the majority of the second half, before Cincinnati midfielder Luciano Acosta equalized the competition with a penalty kick of his own.

The Orange and Blue solidified their win in stoppage time, when midfielder Obinna Nwobodo net a rebound off of New York’s Matt Nocita.

Despite the loss, the Red Bulls outshot the opposition, 9-to-7. New York also won one more dual (60-to-59) and won two more tackles (16-to-14) than the Orange and Blue.

New York's Frankie Amaya made his 100th career appearance with a start in the match against his former club, playing all 90 minutes. The midfielder has started in 12 of his 14 games played this season, recording a career-best three goals and adding two assists.

Moving forward, the Red Bulls turn their attention to Saturday night. The club is set to face Real Salt Lake with a kickoff time of 7:30 p.m. ET.
