MR vs

New York Red Bulls earned all three points over Charlotte FC on Wednesday night at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Wiktor Bogacz scored his first MLS goal in his first MLS start, Mohammed Sofo scored again and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting converted two second half penalties in RBNY's 4-2 victory.

The Red Bulls opened the scoring in the 14th minute, when defender Kyle Duncan whipped in a ball behind Charlotte’s backline and Bogacz ran onto it and hit a first-time ball with his left-foot that went past the Charlotte keeper in the back of the net.

Bogacz scored his first career MLS goal in his first career MLS start. Bogacz became the fifth Red Bulls player since 2020 to score a goal in their first career MLS start.

Duncan recorded his 17th career assist for New York across all competitions, which ranks tied for first with John Tolkin in franchise history for assists by a defender.

New York answered back in the 29th minute, when Wiki Carmona picked up a loose ball and played a curling cross into the box and Sofo deflected the ball towards net and found the right side of the net.

Sofo scored his fourth MLS goal of the season and his seventh across all competitions. The Ghanian forward has scored in three-straight matches across all competitions, including back-to-back games at Sports Illustrated Stadium with a goal.

The Red Bulls earned a penalty kick in the 70th minute, when Choupo-Moting was brought down in the box. He stepped up and converted his attempt right down the middle.

The Red Bulls earned another penalty kick in the 97th minute, when Cameron Harper was brought down in Charlotte’s eighteen-yard box. Choupo-Moting stepped up and converted his second penalty kick of the night.

Choupo-Moting scored his eighth and ninth MLS goals of the season in tonight’s match. The Cameroon international ranks tied for third in MLS this season with eight goals scored. He has scored in back-to-back MLS matches at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Choupo-Moting has recorded five goals in his last five MLS appearances.

Choupo-Moting became the first Red Bulls player with at least nine goals in his first 16 games with the club since Kenny Cooper in 2012.

Daniel Edelman made his 100th career appearance across all competitions in tonight’s match. Edelman becomes the fifth New Jersey native in franchise history to accomplish the feat for the club.

The Red Bulls have posted a 5-0-1 mark against Charlotte FC at home across all competitions.
