MATCH RECAP, pres. by Provident Bank: Hall Hat Trick Leads RBNY to Victory

16x9 16

Julian Hall became the youngest player in league history to score a hat trick, leading Red Bull New York to a 3-2 victory on Wednesday evening.

Hall scored twice in the first half and once in the second as RBNY picked up all three points over the Columbus Crew.

At 18 years and 50 days, Hall is the youngest player in MLS history to score a hat trick.

"He comes in every day, ready to work, ready to train, ready to listen," Head Coach Michael Bradley said. "He has great personality, he has really good starting points as a player, and I've enjoyed every second of working with him. We're going to continue to challenge him, continue to push him, continue to find the right ways to help him improve. Obviously we're really, really excited for him."

New York opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Midfielder Emil Forsberg played a wide through ball into the box to winger Cade Cowell who put in a cross into the six-yard box that was placed into the back of the net by Hall.

The Red Bulls regained the lead in 40th minute.

Defender Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty played a through ball down the right wing to Cowell who put in a line driven cross into the box to Hall who placed it into the back of the net.

New York found the deciding goal in the 79th minute.

Winger Rafael Mosquera crosses a corner kick far post to midfielder Gustav Berggren who heads the ball towards the goal that gets saved by the Columbus keeper and falls to Hall who stretched out and hit a shot into the bottom right corner.

Hall scored his seventh, eighth and ninth goals of the season and is tied for the fourth-most goals scored in MLS.

"I'm not going to lie, I got kind of emotional, like it kind of just makes me think about all the times I was working so hard to make memories like this," Hall said of his new MLS record. "I'm just really grateful and thankful for the guys that set me up and put me in great position."

The Manhattan, NY native is the second fastest player under 25 years old to score at least two goals in two separate matches in a single season MLS goals in club history, doing so in 13 matches.

Cowell provided his fourth and fifth MLS assists of the season and is tied for the fourth-most in MLS this year.  The winger has three goal contributions in his last two appearances.

The Ceres, California native recorded his second career multi-assist match for New York and third of his MLS career.

Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath made two saves in the match.

With the victory, New York are unbeaten in five of their last six matches across all competitions against Columbus.

Hall and the Red Bulls will face off against rivals New York City FC on Saturday, May 16 at Sports Illustrated Stadium for the second New York Derby of the 2026 season.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage on Apple TV in English and Spanish, and Red Bulls Radio in English via the Red Bull New York app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
