The New York Red Bulls lost to Charlotte FC on Sunday Night Soccer, 1-0, in North Carolina.
Kerwin Vargas scored for Charlotte as they took advantage of a mistake, while New York knocked on the door all night but couldn't find the back of the net.
"We made one mistake, where we concede the goal," Head Coach Sandro Schwarz said. "That can happen, but we have to play more with a clear direction to the goal, to play more forward to when we are on the side, then to cross and to bring balls in the box."
Wiki Carmona eclipsed 5,000 MLS minutes played in tonight’s match, while Carlos Coronel passed Sean Davis for fifth place in franchise history for most minutes played by a Red Bulls player across all competitions.
"That is very frustrating, but at the end, we are responsible for that in our behavior -- especially in the final third -- to play forward and to be more hungry, more aggressive in the box, to score," Schwarz said.
New York return back to Sports Illustrated Stadium to battle the Columbus Crew on Saturday, August 30.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish, and New York Red Bulls Radio presented by Sports Illustrated in English via the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
