The New York Red Bulls fell to FC Cincinnati, 1-0, on Saturday night at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
Kevin Denkey scored in the 12th minute for the only goal of the match.
"Of course, we are very disappointed," Head Coach Sandro Schwarz said. "What I can say today from our group, from the whole team, also from the subs and also from the guys who didn't play, for me, they showed really good character today because it's not so easy when you go -- when you concede the first goal, then could be very, very difficult. But the way how we played today, in my opinion, was very well. We have to improve something, especially some in the first half, more aggressive runs in the box."
New York held 61.1 percent of possession and tallied 17 shots in the match.
Raheem Edwards made his 200th career MLS appearance in tonight’s match.
"We obviously got discouraging news not being in the playoffs, and we didn’t get the result we wanted tonight, but I think we played really well in terms of playing and dominating the game," Tim Parker said. "Unfortunately, they had one shot finds the back of the net. Overall, I think the guys fought really hard and played really well, but we just didn’t have the final product."
Following Saturday’s match, the FIFA international break will run from October 6 to October 14. After the break, the Red Bulls will head to Lower.com Field to battle Columbus Crew on Saturday, October 18 for MLS Decision Day.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. ET with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish, and New York Red Bulls Radio presented by Sports Illustrated in English via the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
