MATCH RECAP, pres. by Provident Bank: Red Bulls Fall to Fire

MR vs. CHI 16x9 1

The New York Red Bulls lost to Chicago Fire FC, 1-0, off a penalty given to the home side.

Alexander Hack was called for a handball in the box following video review, as the ball hit his arm as he slid through a tackle inside the 18-yard box. Chicago was able to convert for the lone goal of the match.

"At the end, in these moments to create your momentum, especially on the road, which is very important, we have so many moments sitting in where we can create this," Head Coach Sandro Schwarz said. "We didn't win this one against one, dwell in our offense and the final pass, and it was tough today, but in the final third, it's not good enough, because it's clear that it's not good enough."

Rafael Mosquera made his MLS debut in the match.

Carlos Coronel made five saves on the day, which is tied for the third-most in a single match this season from the Paraguayan international.

New York will return home to Sports Illustrated Stadium for a Leagues Cup matchup against Liga MX side Chivas de Guadalajara on Thursday, July 31.

"We have to regroup after this one," Noah Eile said. "I think we tried everything today. We put it all out there, and unfortunately came up short due to a weird situation. Now it's about regrouping, it's a new competition. Hopefully, we can bring some more consistency, which we lack this season to a new competition."

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish, and New York Red Bulls Radio presented by Sports Illustrated in English via the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
