The New York Red Bulls got their first "home" victory of the 2022 season and moved on to the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals with a 3-1 victory over Charlotte FC at MSU Soccer Park.

Patryk Klimala opened the scoring in the second minute, finding the ball in the box after a post-corner scrum and firing it into the goal to put New York up 1-0 early.

Charlotte FC found the equalizer six minutes later through Daniel Rios.

Against the run of play, New York took the lead again after a Patryk Klimala run lead to a Dylan Nealis tap-in to give the Red Bulls a lead they would not relinquish.

Tom Barlow finished the job in the 90+2 minute with an assist from Luquinhas, making it 3-1.

New York moves on to the quarterfinals in the U.S. Open Cup for the first time since 2017. They will host New York City FC, at Red Bull Arena, at a date to be determined later.
