MATCH RECAP, pres. by Provident Bank: Red Bulls, NYCFC Split Points in New York Derby

16x9 2 (2)

Red Bull New York and New York City FC split the points in a 1-1 draw at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Jorge Ruvalcaba scored for RBNY, smashing home a bouncing ball from one yard out.

Cade Cowell played a cross onto the six-yard box to Julian Hall that was deflected off a defender and fell far post to Ruvalcaba, who laced it into the back of the net.

Ruvalcaba scored his fifth goal of the season and has two goals in his last three appearances.

"We step on the field to play our football, to try to put the game on our terms, to be the team that can control the ball, to be the team that can play with the ball in the attacking part of the field, we try to be a team that is going to press as high as possible?" Head Coach Michael Bradley said. "That can win balls back quickly, that is hard to play against and I thought what you see tonight is growth and maturity of the team, and so we have to continue to go in that direction."

Ethan Horvath made five saves on the night which is tied for the most saves in a single match in his MLS career.

Justin Che made his first start since suffering a hamstring injury against Toronto FC on March 24.

"The atmosphere was amazing tonight," Bradley said. "We did the Red Carpet before the game, you could feel the energy outside the stadium and when everyone came in from warm-ups, you could tell that there was a buzz in the stadium, and there’s nothing better."

New York will next face off against Sporting Kansas City at Children’s Mercy Park on Saturday, May 23.

Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET with coverage on Apple TV in English and Spanish, and Red Bulls Radio in English via the Red Bull New York app and RedBullNewYork.com.
