A first-half Gyasi Zardes goal led Columbus Crew SC (3-0-1, 10 pts) over the New York Red Bulls (2-1-1, 7 pts), 2-0 on Thursday night at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. New York, with three points in the MLS is Back Tournament, will face FC Cincinnati on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, TSN and Red Bulls Radio.


A New York win or draw against FC Cincinnati on Wednesday will advance the Red Bulls to the Knockout Round of the MLS is Back Tournament. 


Following a deep pass sent into the Red Bulls defensive end, Pedro Santos picked up the loose ball and sent a through ball into the box for Zardes. Zardes split the Red Bulls defenders and finished to the far post for the 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute.


Columbus doubled their lead minutes into the second half as former Red Bulls homegrown Derrick Etienne Jr slipped a pass atop the box to Lucas Zelarayán. Zelarayán took two dribbles to his right and finished to the near post in the 47th minute.
