MATCH RECAP, pres. by Provident Bank: RBNY Loses Tough Battle

The New York Red Bulls lost 3-2 to the Columbus Crew SC in the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs Round One. 


At 17 years, 178 days, Caden Clark became the youngest player to score in the MLS Cup Playoffs since Jozy Altidore (16 years, 357 days), according to Opta. Clark’s goal gave RBNY the 1-0 lead with a well-placed left-footed shot. 


Minutes later the home side won a penalty, that Pedro Santos made sure to convert to tie things up 1-1. 


Ryan Meara finished the first half with five saves.


In the 46th minute, Darlington Nagbe extended the lead to 2-1. 


Gerhard Struber’s first substitution saw Cristian CĂ¡sseres Jr. take the field for Dru Yearwood in the 51st minute. Minutes later, Brain White came onto the field for Danny Royer. 


Gyasi Zardes added a third one for the Crew in the 68th minute. 


The Red Bulls’ last three substitutions were Kaku, Marc Rzatkowski and Jared Stroud taking the field for Sean Davis, Florian Valot and Caden Clark. 


In the dying minutes, White got one back for the Red Bulls to leave things 3-2.
