match recap 082920

The New York Red Bulls drew 1-1 against the New England Revolution on Saturday night. After eight games, the Red Bulls have 11 points.

In the 35th minute, Omir Fernandez scored the first goal of the night after a great assist from Ben Mines, who grabbed his first professional assist in his second professional start.

Although the Red Bulls had five shots, three of them on target in the first half, New England leveled in the 41st minute, thanks to Gustavo Bou. The Argentine striker netted his third goal of the 2020 season.

Before the match, Head Coach Chris Armas highlighted the Revolution’s combativeness, but after the first 45 minutes of play, the Red Bulls overpowered the Revs with 26 duels won versus the home side’s 19.

In the 66th minute, Mathias Jørgensen, Marc Rzatkowski and Kyle Duncan came on for Patrick Seagrist, Florian Valot and Tom Barlow.

Jørgensen made a great run on the right flank, nearing the 80th minute mark, but no Red Bull attacker was able to reach his low cross.

New York’s last two substitutions were Jared Stroud and Aaron Long taking Mandela Egbo and Mines’ places.

Tim Parker was issued a straight red in the final minutes of the match.
