HARRISON, N.J. (June 29, 2015) – New York Red Bulls homegrown center back Matt Miazga has been named to the MLS Team of the Week following the Red Bulls’ 3-1 win over NYC FC in the second New York Derby.
Miazga shone at both ends of the field, quieting NYC FC captain and Spanish star David Villa for most of the evening, and also scoring his first professional goal to see the Red Bulls to victory.
It has been a busy month for the 19-year-old, with this accolade coming on the heels of a standout performance for the U.S. Under-20s at the FIFA U-20 World Cup. The Red Bulls are now 6-1-3 with Miazga in the lineup.
Miazga and the Red Bulls dive straight into another derby, hosting the New York Cosmos on Wednesday evening at Red Bull Arena in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 match. Kickoff is set for 7:30, with coverage beginning on MSG at 7:00 with Red Bulls Game Night.
