May 25, 2005 – Youri Djorkaeff scores first MLS goal in 3-0 win over Columbus
From MetroFanatic.com:

French superstar Youri Djorkaeff joined the MetroStars ahead of the 2005 season, becoming the first French player in MLS. Djorkaeff, who had previously starred for FC Internazionale and the 1998 France team that won the World Cup, joined the team at 37 and played two seasons, for the Metro in 2005 and then as part of the inaugural Red Bulls team in 2006.

Djorkaeff introduced himself to the league that day in Columbus with a world-class strike from 25 yards out, showing that touch does not fade with age. The striker received the ball from Eddie Gaven on the break just outside the box, took two touches to cut inside and launched a knuckling shot inside the near post, giving Crew ‘keeper Bill Gaudette no chance.

The goal proved to be the game-winner in a 3-0 road win for the MetroStars. Djorkaeff would go on to be named the team’s MVP for the 2005 campaign, finishing with 10 goals and 7 assists in 24 appearances.
