At Red Bull Arena: First Meeting

HARRISON, N.J. (October 7, 2022) –The New York Red Bulls (14-11-8, 50 pts.) host Charlotte FC (13-17-3, 42 pts.) for the final regular season match of the season on MLS Decision Day at Red Bull Arena on Sunday, October 9. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. ET with coverage on MSG, MSG GO, and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish via TuneIn, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.

Coverage on MSG begins at 2 p.m. ET with the Red Bulls Pregame show. Steve Cangialosi will have the primary play-by-play responsibilities and will be alongside Shep Messing and Michelle Gingras.

New York Red Bulls Radio begins at 1:30 p.m. ET with Countdown to Kickoff, presented by Honda, hosted by Matt Harmon and Steve Jolley. Stefano Fusaro will carry the Spanish play-by-play responsibilities, beginning at 2 p.m. ET.

This will be the second overall regular season meeting between New York and Charlotte, with Charlotte winning the first matchup on June 11 at Bank of America Stadium. The Red Bulls will have the opportunity to move into third place in the Eastern Conference with a win against Charlotte FC and a loss for New York City FC against Atlanta United FC. Charlotte FC are unbeaten in their last four MLS matchups, but were eliminated from MLS Playoff contention after a 2-2 draw against Columbus Crew SC on Wednesday.

The Red Bulls currently have the longest active playoff streak in MLS with 13 straight postseason appearances. With a win against Charlotte, New York will host its first home playoff game since 2018. New York won their last home match at Red Bull Arena against New England Revolution on September 10. Midfielders Cristian Casseres, Jr. and Lewis Morgan both scored a goal each to lead the Red Bulls to victory.

Midfielder Luquinhas has scored seven goals and added six assists in his first season with New York across all competitions. The only time New York has faced Charlotte FC at home was on May 25 in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16, where the Red Bulls defeated Charlotte FC, 3-1. The Brazilian midfielder notched the last assist on New York’s third goal.

Following Sunday’s match, the Red Bulls have already clinched a playoff spot int he 2022 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs and will await Decision Day results on placement in the playoffs and opponent.
