New York Red Bulls and MSG Networks Sign Multi-Year Television Rights Extension

The New York Red Bulls and MSG Networks and have agreed to a new multi-year extension ensuring that MSG Networks will continue as the regional television home of the Red Bulls.


MSG Networks, which has held the telecast rights to the team since 1996, will produce 22 of the Red Bulls’ 34 regular season games this season, including pregame and postgame coverage. The Red Bulls’ season kicks off on Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. vs. the Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Coverage starts at 7:00 p.m. on MSG 2 with a 30-minute pregame show.

MSG Networks’ Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Steve Cangialosi returns for his seventh season as the team’s play-by-play announcer and 13th covering the Red Bulls, while former goalkeeper Shep Messing starts his 14th season as an expert analyst. Host and sideline reporter Tina Cervasio will be back for her seventh season covering the Red Bulls.


New York’s remaining 12 regular season matches will be exclusively shown by MLS national partners ESPN Networks (two on ESPN, four on ESPN2) and the NBC Sports Group (five on NBCSN, one on NBC). In addition, UniMas and Univision will telecast four matches and one match, respectively, in Spanish (MSG Networks will telecast those games simultaneously in English).
MSG Networks is the exclusive local television home of the New York Knicks, New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres (Upstate New York only), New York Liberty and New York Red Bulls, and the official regional sports networks of the New York Giants. MSG Networks also telecasts over 135 live college basketball games and over 35 live college football games from top national conferences (ACC, SEC, Big 12, Big East), as well as horse racing, boxing and award-winning original programming. In 2013, MSG Networks received 18 New York Emmy Awards, including 16 for MSG and one each for MSG+ and MSG.com. MSG’s 85 Emmys over the past six years are more than any single network or station in the region during that time.
