HARRISON (June 18, 2015) – The New York Red Bulls will host the New York Cosmos (NASL) in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 on July 1, at 7:30 p.m. The matchup was determined this morning in a draw held by U.S. Soccer after the remaining 16 teams were grouped geographically after the conclusion of the fourth round on Wednesday evening.

The Red Bulls were drawn geographically into a group with the Cosmos and MLS rivals Philadelphia Union and D.C. United. The Union will host D.C. for the other match in the East group, and the winners of the two matches will meet in the quarterfinals in July.

Based on the results of the draw, the winner of the Red Bulls-Cosmos draw will host the match in the quarterfinal round.

“I’m trying to stay focused,” said Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch. “One game at a time here, but now that the news comes out… I watched the game last night, it was a charged game with emotion and competitiveness. I thought it was an entertaining game. We’re happy to know it’s at home, but we know it will be a big challenge. It’s funny, they don’t have any games until that game, and we’ve got three. We’ll have to now take it game-by-game for us, but I know we’ll be ready for the Open Cup.”

The Red Bulls advanced with a complete 3-0 victory over the Atlanta Silverbacks, also of the NASL, on Tuesday night at Red Bull Arena. The Cosmos pulled off one of just two upsets in the fourth round, defeating New York City FC on penalties on Wednesday evening at their home field on Hofstra University.

The two sides met in the fourth round of the 2014 Open Cup, with the Cosmos taking a 3-0 victory out on Long Island.
