HARRISON, N.J. (April 18, 2015) – New York Red Bulls II has signed Red Bulls academy player Bolu Akinyode to a USL contract, the club announced today.
Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Akinyode, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., captained the Red Bulls Under-16 academy squad and later played with the U-18s. He also earned time with the U-14 Nigerian National Team. Akinyode finished high school at age 16 and committed to play his college soccer at Seton Hall University.
He made an immediate impact for the Pirates, starting 16 of 17 matches as freshman. Akinyode was a mainstay in the starting eleven all four years and received BIG EAST Honor Roll and BIG EAST Academic All-Star honors. The midfielder finished his college career with five goals and four assists.
