The Red Bulls have qualified for the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the eighth time in franchise history. New York have posted a 5-1-2 mark in U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal matches, including a 2-1-1 mark on the road. New York defeated FC Dallas, 4-3, in a penalty shootout to advance to the quarterfinals. Forward Mohammed Sofo scored New Yorkâs first goal of the match and has scored in four-straight U.S. Open Cup matches, while captain Emil Forsberg scored a 93rd minute equalizer to level the match.
This will be the fifth time that New York has faced Philadelphia Union in the U.S. Open Cup and the first time since 2018. The Red Bulls will seek to qualify for the U.S. Open Cup semifinals for the seventh time in franchise history.
