NYRB II Clinches Playoff Berth with 1-0 Win

HARRISON, N.J. (August 19, 2016) – New York Red Bulls II became the first USL team to clinch a berth in the 2016 USL playoffs on Friday night with a 1-0 win over Louisville City FC at Red Bull Arena. Brandon Allen converted a penalty kick to give New York the win.


NYRB II is now 15-3-5 on the season and 6-2-4 at home. NYRB II sits atop the Eastern Conference, three points ahead of Louisville City FC.


With the game scoreless in the 71st minute, NYRB II forward Junior Flemmings was taken down at the edge of the penalty area. After the initial foul call, the referee made a request for the Video Assistant Referee. A review of the play deemed that the foul had occurred inside the penalty area, and a penalty was awarded to NYRB II.


Allen stepped to the spot and converted, his team-leading 11th of the season.


Ryan Meara recorded the shutout, his eighth and the team’s 12th of the season in 23 games.


NYRB II returns to action on Wednesday night with a match at Toronto FC II, before returning home to host FC Cincinnati on August 28 as part of a double-header at Red Bull Arena.
