Do you think the Emirates Cup win will help the Red Bulls in their playoff push?
The New York Red Bulls pulled off the unthinkable this past weekend by beating French Ligue 1 title favorites Paris Saint-Germain and drawing storied English Premier League side Arsenal to win the Emirates Cup. It was a massive win by any standard, and all the more impressive considering the small traveling squad, the back to back games and the elite level of competition.
But at home the Red Bulls have been struggling. New York have just two wins since the beginning of May, and have accumulated nine draws during that stretch. With 30 points, the team sit three points above Sporting Kansas City for the third and final automatic qualifying spot in the Eastern Conference, but have two more games played. Head coach Hans Backe has exhorted his players to "take this momentum boost back" to New York with them for their playoff push.
