  • The New York Red Bulls opened the 2016 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs with a loss to the Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in the first leg of an Eastern Conference semifinal series.
  • Matteo Mancosu scored his third goal of the postseason in the 61st minute.
  • The loss ended New York's 20-game unbeaten streak in all competitions, dating back to July 3.
  • It was the first time New York has been held scoreless against MLS competition since July 10, a 0-0 draw with Portland. RBNY had scored at least a goal in 14 straight MLS matches, and in three of four Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions league matches. The only other shutout since July came in Guatemala City against Antigua Guatemala FC on September 27, a draw that was enough to see New York to its first quarterfinal apperance in the tournament next February.
  • Outside of the 1-6-0 start, New York has not lost consecutive games this season.
  • The Red Bulls return to Red Bull Arena for the second leg next Sunday. The team posted a franchise-record 13-2-2 mark at home this season, the best home record in MLS.
  • The Red Bulls won both home playoff games last season. New York is 27-5-4 at home under Jesse Marsch, including MLS regular season and playoffs.
  • Since the start of 2012, New York has the most regular season home wins (57) and points (187).
  • Omer Damari was issued a straight red card for a serious foul in stoppage time, and will serve a one-game suspension in Leg Two of the Semifinals at Red Bull Arena.
  • Felipe and Montreal's Hassoun Camara both picked up yellow cards in the match. Cautions in the MLS Cup Playoffs carry over, and if either player picks up another yellow card in the next match, they will serve a one-game suspension in their teams' following playoff game.
  • The Red Bulls are now 15-23-8 in the playoffs all-time. This was the first postseason meeting wtih the Impact.
  • New York returns home to host the second leg next Sunday, November 6, at Red Bull Arena. Kickoff time and broadcast information will be determined following the conclusion of all four MLS Cup Playoff Conference Semifinals later tonight.
  • The Red Bulls face a must-win game at home if they are to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals against either Toronto FC or NYC FC.
