- The New York Red Bulls used four different goal scorers to cruise to a 5-1 victory over San Jose on Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena.
- New York moved above the red line to fifth place with a 9-8-2 record, while San Jose fell to 7-8-5.
- It was the first time since NYCFC on May 21, 2016 that New York recorded at least five goals in a match.
- Sean Davis scored his first of the season, and second of his MLS career, to give the Red Bulls a 1-0 lead at the half.
- Between the 73rd and 75th minute, Sacha Kljestan and Felipe both found the back of the net to build New York’s lead to three, 3-1.
- San Jose’s recently added Valeri Kazaishvili cut the Red Bulls lead to two, 3-1, in the 88th minute.
- Daniel Royer, however, put the nail in the coffin with back-to-back goals in a span of 1:43 to give New York a 5-1 victory.
- Royer became the second Red Bull this season to record a multi-goal performance. Royer raised his season total to seven.
- Kljestan’s two assists raised his MLS career total as a Red Bull to 42, which tied Thierry Henry for the club lead.
- With his goal in the 73rd minute, Kljestan became the ninth Red Bull in franchise history to record 15 goals and 15 assists.
- Both Felipe and Connor Lade recorded their first points of the season, as Felipe tallied his first goal of 2017 in the 75th minute, while Lade recorded his first assist on Davis’s goal in the 38th minute.
- Gonzalo Veron recorded his third assist of the season on Royer’s second goal. Veron has recorded at least a point in back-to-back matches and in three of the last four games.
- Homegrown forward Derrick Etienne Jr. recorded his first career professional point as he assisted Royer’s first goal.
- For the second time in franchise history, the Red Bulls had five Homegrown players see the field as Etienne Jr., Davis, Lade, Tyler Adams and Alex Muyl all saw playing time.
- Head coach Jesse Marsch improved his franchise lead to 43 wins. Marsch owns a 43-27-17 record at the helm of New York
- New York is 43-38-22 in the month of July. The Red Bulls have scored 166 goals and have allowed 160 goals in the seventh month of the year.
