Recap: Red Bulls Extend Unbeaten Streak with 2-2 Draw at D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 21, 2016) – The New York Red Bulls earned a 2-2 draw against D.C. United on Sunday at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Bradley Wright-Phillips and Felipe scored to extend New York’s unbeaten streak to eight MLS games.

New York is now 25-34-11 all-time against D.C., and 10-21-6 at RFK Stadium.

The match kicked off as scheduled, but a weather delay was called for in the 10th minute. It would be approximately 73 minutes before play resumed.

Bradley Wright-Phillips opened the scoring in the 38th minute, using his first touch to redirect a pass from Mike Grella by D.C. goalkeeper Bill Hamid. The goal was Wright-Phillips 15th of the season, making him just the fourth player in MLS history to record 15 goals or more in three consecutive MLS seasons.

Felipe doubled the advantage in the 64th minute, finding a pass across the box from Wright-Phillips and firing a low shot that beat Hamid inside the near post. Wright-Phillips earned as assist on the play.

New York has earned 2-2 draws in its last four road MLS outings. The undefeated streak stands at eight in MLS and 10 overall with a home win over Antigua GFC and a road draw against Alianza FC in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.

Daniel Royer made his New York debut in the match, replacing Mike Grella in the 76th minute.

New York returns home next weekend to host another Eastern Conference rival, as the New England Revolution visit Red Bull Arena on Sunday, August 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., with coverage on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and Red Bulls Radio.
