New York Red Bulls General Manager Jerome de Bontin paid a visit to New York City Wednesday afternoon for a special meeting with Deputy Mayor Howard Wolfson and Mayor Mike Bloomberg. Among the topics discussed were the Red Bulls’ donations to the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, a message of ongoing support from the team, and the club's commitment to helping and supporting New York City.
“It was a very nice opportunity to meet with Mayor Bloomberg once again to discuss the landscape of soccer in New York City, and to also assure him that the club will always be there to support the people of the city and its authorities,” said de Bontin.
Mayor Bloomberg and Mr. de Bontin first met in December 2012, when they both participated in the grand opening of the Brooklyn Bridge Pier 5 Park, a five-acre pier that houses three multi-purpose sports fields.
But this visit was a bit more personal, as de Bontin chatted with Deputy Mayor Wolfson extensively about soccer, its presence in New York City, and the overall fan base that exists throughout the world. The meeting concluded with both Wolfson and Mayor Bloomberg expressing interest in coming to matches this season.
“It would be my pleasure to welcome both Deputy Mayor Wolfson and Mayor Bloomberg to a match this season,” said de Bontin. “They both know there is an open invitation waiting for them.”
