Four days after the club’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup triumph against NYCFC, the New York Red Bulls are setup for their second match of the season at Philadelphia Union.

Following Thursday’s training session, head coach Jesse Marsch said the club’s motivated to right the ship after their 3-0 loss to Philadelphia earlier this season.

“We have to be up for a big game again and know that points in our conference in the league are really important,” Marsch said. “I know our group will be ready and we’ll be excited for that match.”

Although the Red Bulls host another New York Derby the following week, Marsch said the team is 100 percent focused on getting a result in Philadelphia.

“I think as much as we like playing New York City and what that rivalry means, we know that Philly’s as important,” Marsch said. “We’ll be ready, we’ll have a lot of fans down there and we’ll be ready to give a good performance.”

The Red Bulls head into Philadelphia this weekend with some momentum, thanks to Wednesday’s 1-0 win over NYCFC.

With this weekend’s match falling on a Sunday, Marsch is confident the extra day of rest will allow his team to fully recover from Wednesday’s match.

“It’s a lot about physically making sure that we can recuperate and I think we will,” Marsch said. “I think that extra day, not just being a three-day turnaround but four, should give us ample opportunity to get guys ready to go.”
