Rimando's double-stop wins Save of the Week

Nick Rimando signed a one-year contract extension with Real Salt Lake.

Nick Rimando's twin stops at San Jose were good enough to win the Real Salt Lake 'keeper the Save of the Week for the opening week of the 2011 MLS season.


The veteran netminder posted one of the best performances of his career during a downpour at Buck Shaw Stadium last weekend. In the 71st minute, he went to ground to deflect a drive by 2010 Golden Boot winner Chris Wondolowski, then made an identical save seconds later off a long-range bullet by Khari Stephenson to help preserve a 1-0 RSL victory.


Rimando twin saves garnered 34 percent of the the fan vote, beating out New York Red Bulls 'keeper Greg Sutton's hand-save on Seattle's Fredy Montero. which took home 24.8 percent of the vote.
