Sacha Kljestan Called In To USMNT For World Cup Qualifiers

HARRISON, N.J. (March 19, 2017) – New York Red Bulls captain Sacha Kljestan has been added to the U.S. Men’s National Team roster for a pair of upcoming World Cup Qualifying games, U.S. Soccer announced today.

Kljestan, who was in January Camp with USMNT, was a late add to the roster, replacing Bobby Wood.

The Red Bulls midfielder will join the US team as they take on Honduras and Panama. Kljestan’s teammate, Red Bulls defender Michael Amir Murillo, will be with the Panamanian team.

The US plays Honduras on March 24 and Panama on March 28.

Kljestan reclaimed a regular spot with the National Team in 2016, breaking into camp in September and posting two solid performances in World Cup Qualifiers against St. Vincent & The Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago. Kljestan was also with the team for an October camp, as well as the first matches in the hexagonal phase of World Cup Qualifying in November.

Most recently, Kljestan featured in the USMNT’s 0-0 draw with Serbia in January.

Kljestan will miss New York’s game against Real Salt Lake on Saturday, March 25 at Red Bull Arena.
