SJ Earthquakes have schedule on their side

Frank Yallop says there is some urgency for San Jose to make a personnel move sometime this summer.

NEW YORK -- They say that stats don't lie. If the numbers hold true, the San Jose Earthquakes stand a good chance of holding on to their playoff spot.

The Quakes currently sit in the seventh playoff spot and are set to play the weakest remaining schedule of any team in the league based on opponents' winning percentage. It also helps that half of San Jose's final eight matches will be played at home.

The league-leading LA Galaxy have the highest percentage of home games with four of their last six games at the Home Depot Center. That does not include their derby match against Chivas USA at the HDC, which is technically a Galaxy away match.

The New England Revolution would seem to have the toughest mountain to climb. Not only do they have a nine-point gap to make up in the standings, but they have the most difficult schedule (according to opponents' winning percentage), while only playing three of their last seven at Gillette Stadium.

Teams with highest perentage of home games remaining:

66.7 percent (4 of 6) – Los Angeles

57.1 percent (4 of 7) – FC Dallas, Colorado, Philadelphia, Chivas USA

50.0 percent – Real Salt Lake (3 of 6), Columbus (3 of 6), New York (3 of 6), San Jose (4 of 8), D.C. United, Kansas City (4 of 8), Chicago (4 of 8)

42.8 percent (3 of 7) - Houston, New England

33.3 percent (2 of 6) – Seattle, Toronto

MLS clubs with the most favorable schedules (lowest opponent winning percentage):

.427 – San Jose, Houston

.449 – Columbus

.453 – Toronto

.459 – Seattle

.475 – Los Angeles

.480 – Kansas City

.496 – Chivas USA

.506 – D.C. United

.519 – Chicago

.528 – Real Salt Lake

.534 – Colorado

.538 – FC Dallas, Philadelphia

.540 – New York

.562 – New England
