Get to know who the Red Bulls will be playing in their upcoming match with The Other Side:

How They’re Doing

Atlético de San Luis has its back against the wall heading into Sunday’s match with New York.

The Liga MX club is coming off a 5-1 loss to New England Revolution in its first Group Stage match on Wednesday. Mateo Klimowicz scored San Luis’ lone goal in the 22nd minute.

New England’s five tallies is tied for the most scored by a club in Leagues Cup thus far. Goals from Giacomo Vrioni (3), Gustavo Bou (1), and an own goal helped the Revolution become the first team from the group to advance to the Knockout Stage.

Atlético de San Luis need to defeat the Red Bulls in regulation to keep their Leagues Cup run alive. A draw on Sunday would push New York into the Knockout Stage after already securing two points in its first match against New England.

San Luis was promoted to Liga MX in 2019, currently sitting in sixth place in Liga MX Apetura with a 1-1-1 record through the first three matches.

Head-to-Head History

Sunday will be the first time that the Red Bulls and Atlético de San Luis face off against one another. San Luis’ first-ever match against an MLS club came on Wednesday against New England.

New York has not faced a LIGA MX opponent since 2019 in the CONCACAF Champions League, when the club took on Santos Laguna twice, falling 2-0 and 4-2 in two matches.

The last time New York earned a positive result over a LIGA MX opponent came in the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League, when the Red Bulls took down Club Tijuana twice, 2-0 and 3-1.

Player to Watch: Defender Unai Bilbao

Atlético de San Luis is in a must-win scenario on Sunday and will need the entire roster to step up in order to take down New York.

Defender Unai Bilbao has been a key contributor on both sides of the ball for San Luis since joining the club in June of 2018. The 29-year-old has recorded two of the team’s six goals in the first three matches of Liga MX Apertura. The center back has also helped the club to only allow five goals in those three games.

Atlético de San Luis will need production on both offense and defense from Bilbao if it wants to secure three points on Sunday and stay alive in the inaugural Leagues Cup.
