How they’re doing

After being picked last in the preseason MLS power rankings, Charlotte FC’s inaugural MLS campaign has exceeded expectations so far.

After three losses in their first three matches, Charlotte has a 5-4-1 record and currently hold the final playoff position in the Eastern Conference.

All five of the wins they have in MLS regular season play have come at home. On the road, they have a 0-5-1 record.

In U.S. Open Cup action, though, their two wins have come on the road, albeit against lower division competition.

In their first cup match in club history, they defeated Greenville Triumph 2-1 in extra time with a 105+1’ go-ahead goal. They then easily dispatched Richmond Kickers 5-1 in the fourth round.

Head-to-Head History

This will be the first time that Charlotte and New York will face off against each other.

The two clubs will square off again in 18 days for their first MLS match against each other.

Player to Watch- Forward Andre Shinyashiki

The 2019 Rookie of the Year for the Colorado Rapids has a new home with Charlotte FC, and it has gotten off to a perfect start.

After being traded by Colorado to Charlotte on May 3, Shinyashiki has three goals in four appearances across all competitions.

In 86 MLS appearances for Colorado, the Brazilian international had 16 goals and six assists on 135 total scoring attempts.

Having hit the ground running in his new home, Shinyashiki will be one to watch if he gets the call to start in the USOC match against New York.
