Get to know who the Red Bulls will be playing in their upcoming matchup.

How they’re doing

It’s a new-look managerial staff leading Charlotte FC into the summer stretch.

This will be the first match under interim head coach Christian Lattanzio, who was named to the role after the dismissal of the team’s first head coach Miguel Ángel Ramírez.

Charlotte sits two points outside an Eastern Conference playoff spot with a 5-8-1 record in league play in its inaugural season.

The team is coming off a 2-1 loss on the road against the Seattle Sounders on May 29, but it has won two of its last three MLS matches at home since the beginning of May. Charlotte is 5-2 in Bank of America Stadium.

Charlotte has struggled to find the back of the net throughout the slate, scoring a league-low 13 goals across 14 matches.

Head-to-head history

This will be the first regular season matchup between the Red Bulls and the league’s newest expansion team.

Their only previous meeting came in the U.S. Open Cup on May 25, as New York prevailed, 3-1, at MSU Soccer Park behind goals from Patryk Klimala, Dylan Nealis and Tom Barlow to advance to the quarterfinals.

Player to watch – Midfielder Ben Bender

The first overall pick in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft banged home his second goal of the season in Charlotte’s last outing. A United Soccer Coaches first team All-American from the University of Maryland, Bender has been a factor throughout the season for the club.

His two goals in league play are good for second on the team. Bender also leads Charlotte with three assists during the regular season.

After getting a mix of starts and substitute appearances through the first two months of the season, Bender has been picked for the first XI in each of the last four league matches since the beginning of May.
