THE OTHER SIDE: What you Need to Know About Chicago Fire FC

Get to know who the Red Bulls will be playing in their upcoming matchup:

How They’re Doing

Chicago has yet to make a playoff appearance since 2017, but they’re off to a relatively promising start so far in 2023.

They currently have 10 points from eight matches and are undefeated at home. They have held leads against tough opponents like Philadelphia and Cincinnati, but failed to get all three points from each of those matches.

They have done all this without much help from 2022 star signing Xherdan Shaqiri, who has only made four appearances this season with no goal contributions to his name.

Head-to-Head History

Chicago and New York have met 71 times across all competitions since their inaugural matchup in 1998, with the Fire owning a 34-23-14 edge.

New York has won five of their last ten away matches against the Fire and has only lost three of them.

Last year, the Red Bulls came from behind to beat Chicago 2-1 at a rain-soaked Soldier Field. The Fire then came to Red Bull Arena and almost took three points, if not for a late Patryk Klimala equalizer.

Player to Watch: Forward Kei Kamara

Journeyman forward Kei Kamara has played for 10 different MLS clubs, most recently joining Chicago after a trade from CF Montréal.

In 398 total appearances, he has 142 goals and 54 assists, including a team-leading three goals for the Fire this season.

Despite only starting six of Chicago’s nine MLS league matches this season, he has made an instant impact with his new club and will be one to watch on Saturday night.
