How They’re Doing

One season removed from finishing at the bottom of the table in the Western Conference, San Jose currently find themselves in fifth place after six matches.

In those six matches, San Jose has three wins, all of them coming at home. 

The struggles on the road, however, have continued. Since the beginning of 2022, the Earthquakes have only managed one win away from home in 19 league matches.

In their most recent match, San Jose took down Houston 2-1 through two goals from the spot.

The Red Bulls and San Jose have had a long history, with their first meeting coming in 1996.

The Earthquakes hold a slight advantage in the series, holding a 18-16-9 record. 

The recent series, though, has been dominated by the Red Bulls, who have won the last four meetings dating back to 2017.

Player to Watch: Midfielder Cristian Espinoza

Espinoza pulls the strings for the San Jose attack, and will be be one to watch on Saturday night.

The Argentinian midfielder currently leads the league with 19 “key passes” and has added a team-leading three goals so far this season. He also has three goals and two assists to his name in 2023.

Last season, he was fourth in MLS with 14 assists. In his San Jose career, which dates back to 2019, Espinoza has 46 assists in 125 total appearances.
