CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 11, 2017) – New York Red Bulls II fell short against the Charlotte Independence, 5-1. Junior Flemmings scored the lone goal for New York.


The loss dropped New York to 3-3-2 on the season. Red Bulls II currently stands in fifth place of the Eastern Conference.


In the first half, Flemmings fired New York ahead in the 21st minute, burying a toe-poke shot at the near post.


Charlotte answered with two goals in a five-minute span, when Jorge Herrera finished a rebound in the 38th minute and Callum Ross gave the Independence the lead in the 43rd on a header.


In the second-half, the Independence rounded out the night with three more goals from Enzo Martinez, David Estrada and Jaime Saij.


Red Bulls II returns home to Red Bull Arena on Sunday, where they will take on LA Galaxy II at 9 p.m.
