Week 31 of the MLS season was chock full of big saves — now it’s up to you to pick the best one.
Five worthy candidates are nominated for the Week 31 Save of the Week honors, with Andre Blake, Steve Clark, Donovan Ricketts, Luis Robles and Bobby Shuttleworth all up for the award.
Blake couldn’t extend the Philadelphia Union’s playoff hopes, but he did make a huge save on Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco, a man whose beaten more than his fair share of ‘keepers this year. The Union backstop extended high and to the right to tip away a Giovinco free kick that looked destined for the top corner in the first half of Philly’s 2-1 loss at TFC.
Clark and Shuttleworth also made their fine stops in losing efforts, with Clark stoning a low effort from the Red Bulls’ Bradley Wright-Phillips in Crew SC’s loss at New York and Shuttleworth making a fine one-handed block to parry away a David Accam blast in New England’s defeat at Chicago.
Ricketts and Robles made their stops in positive results for their respective clubs, with Ricketts going low and to his left to parry Clint Dempsey’s effort in LA’s 1-1 draw at Seattle and Robles laying out to get a touch to a blistering half-volley from Columbus’ Federico Higuain in the Red Bulls’ win against Crew SC.
Which save was your favorite? Vote now — the winner will be announced on Friday.
