Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles has been nominated for MLS Save of the Week after a terrific early save in the shutout win against New York City FC on Sunday.
NYC FC came out firing at Red Bull Arena, testing Robles and the back line. In the 8th minute the visitors were on the break, and a ball was served in to Mix Diskerud, who found himself alone making a run to the back post. Diskerud met the cross and delivered a strong volley, but a well-positioned Robles was able to make the save.
Robles would make three saves for his sixth clean sheet of the season. It was also the 25th of his New York career, putting him in a tie with Tony Meola for most in franchise history. Meola was on hand to see his record tied, as he was honored before the match as part of the best 20 in 20.
The Red Bulls are back home this weekend for a Saturday meeting with Toronto FC. Kickoff at Red Bull Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
