YEAR IN REVIEW: Ryan Meara

Goalkeeper Ryan Meara proved his worth behind Luis Robles again this season by being the goalkeeper of choice during the New York Red Bulls’ run to the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final.

"Ryan has earned it in how he has played through this tournament," head coach Jesse Marsch said in the midst of New York’s Open Cup run. "This is his tournament to play."

Meara opened the tournament with a clean sheet against NYCFC as New York claimed victory in the first New York Derby to be played in the U.S. Open Cup.

In the Round of 16, the goalkeeper saved the day when the match went to a penalty-kick shootout against the Philadelphia Union, making a fourth round save which helped New York move on.

Meara started all five Open Cup matches for the Red Bulls, including the Open Cup Final. The goalkeeper notched two clean sheets, bringing his shutout total to four all time in Open Cup matches.
