NY hope to add to roster before window closes

The Red Bulls have targeted English midfielder Luke Rogers since the spring.

Despite being the biggest movers and shakers during this summer’s transfer window, the New York Red Bulls may not be done improving their side.

New York head coach Hans Backe confirmed the team is interested in making two additions to their roster.

Backe said that one target appears to be back in the club's sights after initially thinking they couldn't move for the player as he was still under contract. However, he said that they are still working on the process, though Sunday’s transfer window deadline is hampering the process.

The player is a central midfielder, but Backe would only give hints about the target.

“I know him very well from my time in Copenhagen,” Backe said.

Luke Rodgers, an English forward whom Backe has targeted since the spring, could still join the team. The player had a successful second interview needed to get a work visa and was granted permission to play in the United States. Backe said that the holdup is now in the form of the paperwork, which takes “four to six weeks.”

Backe said that if Rodgers is unable to join the team this transfer window, he could likely join early next year.
