Coundoul Miller

New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul and defender Roy Miller have been called up to their respective national teams and will miss the team’s first preseason trip in Mexico.

Coundoul was named to the Senegal National Team for its upcoming friendly against Guinea on Feb. 9 in Dakar. Coundoul enters his third season with the Red Bulls, having been capped four times for Senegal with the latest coming on Aug. 11, 2010, a 1-0 friendly victory over the Cape Verde Islands. This past season, Coundoul started 27 games for the Red Bulls, posting a 14-8-5 record during the regular season to go along with a 1.04 goals against average. Coundoul also set the regular season franchise record for shutouts during the 2010 season by recording 11 clean sheets.

Miller joins the Costa Rican National Team for their Feb. 9 friendly against Venezuela in Puerto La Cruz. He recently started in all four matches for the Ticos in the Central American Cup, which concluded in late January. In the semifinal on Jan. 21, the defender converted the clinching penalty in the shootout to earn a victory over Panama, 1-1 (4-2), and a spot in the final. Miller played the full game in the title match versus Honduras, but the Ticos ultimately fell 2-1. The four appearances for Miller raised his cap count to 20. Miller just completed his first season as a Red Bull, making 25 appearances and 21 starts while earning two assists.
