Five members of the New York Red Bulls appeared in international matches over the past week with mixed results.


Red Bulls goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul backstopped Senegal to a 2-0 victory over the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying on Sept. 3. With the victory, Senegal won Group E and advanced to the tournament proper.


Defender Rafa Marquez went 90 minutes in Mexico’s 1-0 victory over Chile in an international friendly on Sept. 4 in Barcelona, Spain. It was his 109th international appearance for “El Tri”.


The United States lost to Costa Rica, 1-0, in an international friendly in Carson, California on Friday, Sept. 2. Red Bulls forward Juan Agudelo earned his 12th cap for the U.S., entering the match in the 62nd minute for former Red Bull Jozy Altidore. Agudelo’s Red Bulls teammate Roy Miller started the match and played 90 minutes in his 23rd international appearance for Costa Rica. The United States followed up its loss with another 1-0 defeat on Tuesday, this time to Belgium in Brussels. Agudelo, making his 13th appearance for the U.S., again came on in replace of Altidore, playing the entire second half. Red Bulls defender Tim Ream was not selected in Jurgen Klinsmann’s 18-man game day roster for either match.


Dane Richards was called into Jamaica’s squad for its friendlies on Sept. 2 against Ecuador and Sept. 6 against Colombia. Richards did not appear in Jamaica’s 5-2 loss to Ecuador. However Richards did start in the Reggae Boyz next match against Colombia in Fort Lauderdale, FL, making his 32nd appearance for his country. Unfortunately for Richards and Jamaica, they lost their fourth straight match, falling 2-0.
