HARRISON, NJ (March 16, 2012) – Each spring, America SCORES celebrates the achievements of their students with a National Poetry SLAM! This year’s event will take place on April 16 at the Apollo Theater in New York City and the event’s Guest of Honor will be New York Red Bulls President of Operations, Chris Heck. Past honorees have included Robin Williams, Don Garber, Rick Davis, Sunil Gulati and most recently Kathy Carter (2011).
At the National Poetry SLAM!, two poets from each of the organization’s 15 cities are selected from among 5,000 America SCORES students to travel to New York to perform original poetry. This year’s poets will be performing from the stage of the World Famous Apollo Theater. The host will be National Soccer Hall of Fame member, John Harkes. Members of the Red Bulls will also be present at the event.

A national nonprofit organization, America SCORES partners with public schools in low-income communities to provide a high quality, award-winning afterschool program to elementary and middle school youth.
