The New York Red Bulls will be without their two Designated Players during their upcoming road trip.

Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe confirmed on Friday that Thierry Henry and Rafa Márquez would miss Sunday’s road fixture against the Chicago Fire (5 pm ET, NBCSN, live chat on MLSsoccer.com) and the June 20 game vs. the Vancouver Whitecaps. Henry is recovering from a calf injury he sustained while training on his own during the international break, and Márquez picked up a thigh knock while with Mexico.

“They will not travel,” Backe told reporters following Friday’s practice. “They are out for the two on the road games.”

Backe added that the two Red Bulls players will be training with members of the staff who will not be going on the road trip, and that they should be ready for next Sunday’s home match against the Eastern Conference’s first-place team, D.C. United.

“I would guess a week should be enough,” Backe said.

Henry missed four games earlier in the season because of a hamstring injury, while Márquez has missed more matches (seven) than he has played (six) this year due to a combination of injuries and suspensions.
