While the Red Bulls are in the midst of a playoff push, the onset of fall signals the beginning of the season for the Red Bulls Academy. This weekend the Under-13 and Under-14 teams both got their seasons off on the right foot.
A week after going 3-0 in an MLS Academy preseason tournament, the Red Bulls’ Under-13 squad began their campaign with a rousing 7-0 victory over Oakwood SC. The Red Bulls were dominant from the get-go, scoring three times in the opening frame, highlighted by a brace from Kevin Doorley after Tyrrell Moore tallied the opener. The stars of the second half were Brandon Haughton and Zach Ryan, with Ryan notching three goals after the break. Haughton added a goal to go along with an earlier assist. The U-13s will hope to keep their excellent form going next weekend when they travel to Somerset, NJ for a match with PDA.
The Under-14 Red Bulls, who were also perfect in three preseason battles with fellow MLS sides last weekend, also faced off against Oakwood on Sunday. It was a tough back-and-forth contest, but the Red Bulls’ defense held firm. In the second half Markez Zella found the back of the net for the game’s only goal. The U-14s will get back at it this weekend when they visit McLean Soccer Academy in Fairfax, VA.
