When it comes to Mock Drafts it’s best to just take it for what it is – a little bit of hype ahead of what will undoubtedly be a big day for a number of collegiate players.

Often times it’s hard to take anything past maybe the top three mocks as being mildly accurate; and even that can be a stretch at times. Which is why we’ll simply entertain the idea of MLSsoccer.com’s Mock Draft, and save the real news for the day of the actual draft on Jan. 17, Noon ET on ESPN3.com (we’ll also have a live stream of the event available right here on NewYorkRedBulls.com).

Three MLSsoccer.com editors – Simon Borg, Matt Doyle, and Jason Saghini – collaborated on a full mock rundown of the draft. With the 22nd overall pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, Borg selected midfielder Blake Smith from New Mexico. Doyle and Saghini, on the other hand, both selected UNC Charlotte’s Donnie Smith, also a midfielder.

Here’s what Doyle had to say about Donnie Smith, noting the midfielder’s flexibility as an asset:

“A true wing threat who never stopped giving everything even when his team was being pummelled. Showed some game at left back as well, which is welcome versatility.”

And here’s a little snippet of what Borg had to say about Blake Smith:

“The Red Bulls midfield is short on technical, left-footed players. Although Loyd Sam has played out left as an inverted winger, they won't miss the chance to land one of the two left-footed Smiths available.”

You can see what Saghini had to say and read up on the rest of the Mock Draft at MLSsoccer.com
