MONTREAL, QC (March 23, 2013) – In a tight match, the New York Red Bulls dropped a 1-0 decision to Eastern Conference leader, the Montreal Impact (4-0-0, 12 points), at Olympic Stadium.

New York (0-2-2, two points) returns home on Saturday, March 30 to battle the Philadelphia Union at Red Bull Arena at 3:30 PM. Tickets are available by calling 1.877.RBSOCCER or logging onto www.newyorkredbulls.com.

Montreal took the lead in the 14th minute. Patrice Bernier chipped it over the top to an on-side Marco Di Vaio, who got behind the Red Bulls’ back line and tucked it past goalkeeper Luis Robles.

New York’s best chance of the opening 45 minutes came with seven minutes left in the half. Defender Heath Pearce got free at the back post and forced goalkeeper Troy Perkins to make a stop off of his header. Perkins again blocked Pearce’s follow-up attempt before the Red Bull cut it back to Peguy Luyindula. Luyindula however could not keep his first-time attempt on target.

Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles made a number of saves to keep the visitors in the match, including tipping away a blast from Montreal’s Andrea Pisanu in the 51st minute. Nine minutes later, Perkins came up with another big stop, stuffing Jonny Steele from close range. Perkins then sprawled to his right with 20 minutes to play to touch a Luyindula deflection to safety.

New York was reduced to 10 men in the 74th minute when Brandon Barklage earned his second yellow card, ejecting him from the match.
