HANOVER, NJ (July 14, 2013) – The New York Red Bulls reserves played a 0-0 draw against the Montreal Impact’s reserves Sunday at the Red Bulls Training Facility.

The Red Bulls controlled much of the play in the first half and had plenty of opportunities to find the back of the net. In the sixth minute, Mauricio Casierra sent a cross to Amando Moreno in the box and he headed the ball on net. But Impact goalkeeper Evan Bush made the stand up save.

Casierra then had a chance to give the Red Bulls a 1-0 advantage in the 36th minute when Lloyd Sam sent a pass to Casierra and his header went wide right. Right before the end of the first half, Ryan Meara made a diving stop to his right, on Zakaria Messoudi’s blast to keep the game scoreless.

Despite the heat and humidity, Montreal came out strong in the second half. In the 55th minute, Meara made a big stop, diving to his left to make the save on a low strike from Sanna Nyassi.

The Red Bulls’ best chance may have come in the 71st minute of the match when Andre Akpan beat his defender with a quick move into the box. Akpan rushed outside to the left of the net and tried to shoot it past Bush, but Bush made the diving save.

With both teams pushing to score a goal in the final minutes, Nyassi broke into the box in the 84th minute, from the left side but substitute goalkeeper Kevin Hartman scooped up the low blast. Moments later, Ian Christianson slid a pass to Moreno who rushed in past two Montreal defenders and had his shot pushed aside by Bush with five minutes left to play.
