It was a perfect day for soccer this past Saturday, and the play of the Red Bulls U-16s coincided with the flawless weather.

The Red Bulls took control from the start by maintaining the majority of the possession.  The first goal came 16 minutes into the game when the Red Bulls U-16s won the ball in midfield, with Jeanpaul Marin then playing the ball through for Brian Saramago to score with a well-struck shot from just inside the penalty area.

The second goal didn’t arrive until the 67th minute when Kyle Perno scored off an assist from Jared Gilbey.  The team then faced a couple tests on the defensive side, but goalkeeper Xavier Kennedy was able to keep the shutout alive.

Jared Gilbery, who took over possession at midfield and sent a clever flick-on to Saragamo, catalyzed the third and final goal of the game.  Saragamo then played the ball across to Zach Ryan who was able to put the finishing touch on the game.

Gilbery, man of the match, realizes there’s a tough road ahead. “I’m glad we were able to score three goals and keep a clean sheet but I think the whole team knows we will have to cut down on our mistakes next week in what will probably be our biggest test of the season and a very important game that will, if we win, give us a lot of momentum going into playoffs.”
