Dan Metzger named USL Player of the Week

TAMPA, Fla. – New York Red Bulls II midfielder Dan Metzger has been voted the USL Player of the Week for the 14th week of the 2015 season as his standout midfield performance proved key in NYRBII’s 2-0 victory against Louisville City FC on Saturday night.

Metzger earned 40 percent of the vote, which was conducted by a national panel of independent media representing every USL market. Sacramento Republic FC’s Gabe Gissie and the LA Galaxy II’s Dave Romney tied for second with 30 percent apiece.

GK – Charlie Lyon, Seattle Sounders FC 2: Was excellent despite defeat in Arizona, as he recorded eight saves to give S2 a chance on the road

D – Anthony Arena, Pittsburgh Riverhounds: Solid at center of Pittsburgh’s defense as Riverhounds recorded first shutout in win against Montreal

D – Dave Romney, LA Galaxy II: Opened the scoring in Los Dos’ victory against Orange County with his first pro goal; was also key in shutout

D – Karl Ouimette, New York Red Bulls II: Solid all-around display to limit Louisville to four shots on target as NYRBII took important road victory

M – Marco Bustos, Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2: Scored his first professional goal and was aggressive offensively in WFC2’s 3-2 win against Portland

M – Dan Metzger, New York Red Bulls II: Protected the back line well and quickly moved possession to spur NYRBII’s attacks from midfield

M – Rony Argueta, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC: Strong overall performance in midfield was capped by a fine goal in a 1-0 win at Saint Louis

M – Jorge Herrera, Charlotte Independence: Made the difference off the bench for Charlotte, as he provided the assist on Tomasz Zahorski’s game-winner

M – Yann Ekra, Harrisburg City Islanders: Dynamic in both attack and defense as Harrisburg almost handed Rochester its first defeat of the season

F – Gabe Gissie, Sacramento Republic FC: The 18-year-old’s first professional goal was decisive as Republic FC rallied to defeat OKC Energy FC 2-1

F – Long Tan, Arizona United SC: Scored the game-winner with an excellent header as United took a 2-1 victory against Seattle

Bench: Santiago Castaño (NY), Troy Cole (WIL), Guaraci (ATX), Kevin Kerr (PGH), Andre Auras (LA), Christian Volesky (ROC), Tomasz Zahorski (CLT)
